Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen State Park is in Watkins Glen, New York in the Finger Lakes Region. It is located near the southwestern corner of Seneca Lake.

There are several hiking trails throughout the park, however the Gorge Trail is the most popular and what most people come here to see. We did a loop, going down the Gorge Trail and coming back on the North Rim/Indian Run Trail.

The Gorge Trail is about 1.5 miles long, has a total of 832 stairs and takes you right past 19 waterfalls. You walk through caves, below and on bridges, and even behind a couple waterfalls.

The first half mile or so of the trail was very crowded the day we were there, at times having to wait in line to continue moving on the trail. But once we got past that first bit, it thinned out a lot. There were even times where we couldn’t see anyone else on the trail.

This park is beautiful and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. There are quite a lot of stairs, making it more challenging. But the first waterfall you see can be accessed by a flat portion of the trail.
