Anybody that has been on a Carnival cruise has seen the towel animals that they place on your bed or in your room each day when they clean your room. When we went up to the deck for breakfast this morning, we were surprised to see each and every chair have a towel animal on it. It was super cute. We had woken up about an hour or so before we were docked at the port, so got to watch that happen as we were eating, it was cool to see.

Our tour for this day was primarily a bus tour with a few stops along the way at some of the top sites. The tour guide did a great job at pointing out some of the other landmarks throughout our bus ride.

The first place we stopped to get out and explore was the Palais Longchamp. There are a couple museums that are inside the lower levels of this building, but we stayed on the outside in the park area. My dad and I did climb up the steps to the upper level and were able to have some good views of the area.
We then got back on board the bus and made our way around the city a little bit more. Our next stop was Notre Dame de la Garde, the iconic symbol of Marseille. This basilica sits high atop the mountains and offers incredible panoramic views of the city as well as the coast and sea. The inside of the basilica was equally as beautiful.
There was a cafe inside on one of the lower levels and of course, we had to have some traditional French food. My dad had a latte and my mom and I split a chocolate crepe. And once again, it was delicious. I don’t think I had a bad dish throughout this trip.

Our bus drive then took us down to “The Old Port” which is a nice boardwalk-esque area of Marseille. From here we were able to look up and see the Notre Dame basilica that we had just come from high in the mountains. We walked around the port area a little bit and did some shopping. There were other attractions here including a ferris wheel and a carousel, though we decided to skip these. I was once again taken aback by the beautiful architecture that we saw throughout this city. The amount of history throughout Europe really is amazing.
This excursion was only a half day tour and we were back on our ship around lunch time. We had lunch at Guy’s burgers again, and again it was delicious. We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool, not wanting our amazing trip to come to an end.
After dinner and the nightly comedy show, we were back to our room for the night, ready for our final stop the next day, Barcelona, Spain!
